For a more comprehensive and helpful guide to the history of Scotch whisky, or to better understand whisky history from a more circumspect perspective, there are some excellent books that cover the subject well.  Some are out of print and might be harder to come by, but you could check out titles and publications by whisky writers such as Michael Jackson, Charlie Maclean, and J.R Hume.

  1. A final verse to add:

Decimalised ABV, looks cask-strength to me.
STR and micro-cask: something weird is my flask!
Inner staves from Burgundy, rapid-aging THEA,
Aged in tequila kegs, wood managed to the dregs!

And we could go on…but won’t. Great stuff, AD.
